'Ballet Changed My Life: Ballet Hoo!', 10pm, C4
'To be a somebody, not a nobody,’ says one of the guys from charity Youth at Risk; he’s explaining the purpose of an 18-month project which culminates with these novice teenagers appearing with the professionals from Birmingham Royal Ballet in a one-off performance of ‘Romeo And Juliet’ on September 28 (broadcast October 7). In this episode the stakes are raised, as commitment and discipline start making demands. Frustrations, nerves, fights, walk-outs – will it work?
Ballet Changed My Life: Ballet Hoo!, Wed Oct 4, Channel 4 10am-11.05pm

I watched this programme and was so amazingly moved that these kid's got given the oppertunity to see a brighter side to life having never seen much of a rainbow themselves and the opportunities that are out there for all kind's of people with a dream.
So much so it has completely inspired me to work with young offenders ageing from 6 to 18 in dance and create a piece and produce a show.. it must be great to get to the roots of these young people and focus their mind's on something so worthwhile and rewarding. I studied dance at the laban centre and never finished my degree but dance is a massive part of me and a great way to express good posotive messages to anyone that listen's ,i never stopped dancing and never will but i always wanted to use it to make a difference and i will ..i hope more people get inspired to give people of any background a chance in life. Even if just one person's life get's changed it is so much better than none .. I think it's fab that the birmingham royal ballet took part in it ,it's setting a great standard amongst many other's i'm sure.
It's so sad that some children grow up with and i hate to say parent's that just do not care but only for themselves, and ranging from mental abuse to physical abuse these kid's on channel four really did a great thing and they did it so so well,i just hope whatever they end up doing that they take head of all they learnt and continue in life with a posotive attitude and common belief in themselves ...that it is possible for anyone to achieve their goals, ambitions in life .. and let the negative experience's only make you stronger...
I thought this whole project was outstanding from beginning to end and found the final production extraordinarily moving with those young people expressing emotion and acting in an incredible way as well as dancing. Their teachers and coaches were marvellous people and I just want to know what has happened since!
Will you please do a catch up Channel 4? Please.
what was the music used for the programme 'how ballet changed my life'...i would like to use it for my dance gcse.
I watched this programme with fascination and found a lot of the children's experiences moving and inspiring. A lot of the middle classes have belly ached about the fact that more talented hardworking dancers have never had the opportunity that these young people have had to dance with such an elite ballet company and i pity their small mindedness that they do not have they insight to see that this one spectacular day's performance could have changed the life chances of a small percentage of the individuals who have 'touched the hem' of opportunity and were given the trust and respect of people who would ordinarily be hiding behind very bland and predictable lives too busy and conceited to notice them. I don't condone the indulgence of bad behaviour and I don;t believe for one minute that this was what was on display here. I saw teenagers stepping out of their sometimes painful lives to be viewed as beautiful individuals who as a team shone brightly be it for a very short time.
