The Royal Ballet's much-loved 'Romeo & Juliet' with Kenneth MacMillan's 1966 choreography. Prokofiev's music is familiarly stirring, the costumes are rich in earthy tones and there's all sorts of swaggering and swashbuckling from the rival families, but it's the intimate drama between the central couple that makes this show soar, or not. With Tamara Rojo and Alina Cojocaru both having left the company for English National Ballet, some new Juliets will get a chance to shine. Brit ballerina Lauren Cuthbertson is the opening night's leading lady, with Federico Bonelli as her Romeo. New recruit Natalia Osipova and Cuban superstar Carlos Acosta are the real hot ticket here (Nov 21 & Dec 7) but their shows are already sold out so it's returns only.
