Discover Life, discover Leffe…
Originally created by monks near Dinant in Belgium, Leffe’s complex, layered taste was developed to quench the thirst and loosen the tongues of pilgrims who arrived at their abbey. Still brewed using the same ingredients, processed as it was in 1240, and served in a trademark chalice glass, Leffe continues to stimulate the conversation and tales of those who discover it.
This is a beer to be contemplated – a beer that is rich in every sense of the word: taste, colour, aroma, ritual and history. It’s not designed to be downed and quickly forgotten. Rather, it’s meant to be part of intimate moments among small groups of people.
While sharing a Leffe, beer drinkers can enjoy a true moment of indulgence. Designed for serious connoisseurs, Leffe should be savoured when there is time to relax and enjoy the deep flavours of this age-old recipe.
Time-honoured technique
Leffe’s brewing process differs from that of run-of-the-mill ales, creating its distinctive, savoury taste. It’s a typical Belgian top-fermented beer, brewed according to the 800-year-old recipe of the monks of Leffe Abbey.
Top-fermented beers are brewed at a higher temperature, creating a more aromatic drink. When the process is finished, the yeast floats, unlike in lager beers where the yeast remains on the bottom.
Leffe is known as a ’high-density’ beer, which means that more raw materials, such as malt and hops, are used in the brewing process than for lagers. Carefully selected aromatic malts are used to create Leffe, giving it its deep yellow colour and memorable taste.
A Leffe for every occasion
The Leffe is available in four varieties in the UK: Blonde, Brune, Triple and Radieuse. Each of these unique brews is made by craftsmen who rely on hundreds of years of brewing experience and tradition, and each Leffe has its own character. There is truly a Leffe for every occasion.
Ten ways to enjoy Leffe Blonde with food
Not only does Leffe Blonde cleanse and refresh, its rich flavour palate means it also enhances the taste of a wide range of foods.
1. Crème brulée
Top of the bill is this ever-popular dessert - its indulgent, soothing and comforting character fuses with Leffe’s caramel flavours for a taste sensation
2. Tempura or fried fish/vegetables
Leffe Blonde supports the subtle fruity flavours of crispy tempura and lightly fried fish or vegetables
3. Oysters
Both Leffe Blonde and oysters are blessed with a silky texture and a sweet-salty flavour combination, evoking the freshness of the sea
4. Cheese
Cheese and Leffe Blonde are the perfect match – the subtle bitterness of the beer cuts through the richness of the cheese, letting the flavour come into its own
5. Asparagus
It’s always tricky working out how to preserve the delicate yet distinctive flavour of asparagus without overpowering it, but Leffe Blonde does the job – adding another dimension to this aphrodisiac, with or without melted butter
6. Chicken
A simple ingredient becomes a real feast. Leffe Blonde brings out the sweetness of the poultry, while complementing any extra flavours
7. Pork
Just like good crackling, Leffe Blonde acts as a comforting compliment to this sometimes overlooked dish, with well-balanced honey-like fruit flavours
8. Fish
Leffe Blonde works well with all types of fish, supporting and enhancing flavours with a lemony freshness and lingering finish
9. Spicy food
For best results match Leffe Blonde with mild spicy food. Not only will it cleanse your palate but it also helps to maintain the tingling aftertaste
