n the secret address book of many interior designers, Retrouvius is a salvage shop that specialises in sourcing quirky reclaimed goods. A batch of 50 French school chairs (£39 each, with discounts for bulk buys), a perfectly preserved lute, and a painted timber surveyor’s pole were all available at last visit. But there’s more than just novelty goods: owners Adam Hills and Maria Speake have been finding glorious old mirrors, farmhouse tables and lab worktops since 1993, and have a real knack for spotting the beauty in industrial fittings and other people’s cast-offs.
