When it opened over a decade ago, the St Martins was the toast of the town. The flamboyant, theatrical lobby was constantly buzzing, and guests giggled like schoolgirls at Philippe Starck’s playful decor. To get back that wow factor, the hotel is renovating its lobby, restaurant and bar as we go to press, but work has been completed on the guest rooms: now interactive light displays have taken the place of slightly chilly minimalism, but the stunning floor-to- ceiling windows remain. Special garden rooms have private terraces full of flowers.

I stayed at this hip hotel and found it very nice and the fact that is not hip anymore made it even better. The rooms are small but stunningly functional, the bathroom has the perfect size, and the service was great all in. All in all my second fave hotel after the Langham.
