The shiny new Olympic Park may be the place all sports fans want to get into this summer, but it’s not the only sports venue in the capital worth a visit. If your Olympic dream died with an unproductive ticket ballot or you’re hosting sports-mad visitors in London or visiting the city this summer, these places are all worth checking out. Most of the major sporting venues offer behind-the-scenes tours so you can walk in the players’ footsteps, and increasingly high-tech museums mix historical artefacts with flashy interactive exhibits.

Venue tours should be booked in advance and opening times are subject to change, so check before you visit. Wembley, Wimbledon and Lord’s are hosting Olympic events and will be closed to the general public during the Games.
