As Pride approaches, the publishers of the official Pride London magazine have compiled a list of the 100 most influential LGBT people in the UK.
The Pride Power List bills itself as an alternative to The Independent’s annual Pink List. Publisher Linda Riley explains, ‘We felt there was a need for a list that involved a greater variety of sources that represent the gay community. We have tried to make it more public-oriented by asking the advice of a wider selection of people and organisations. The original top 300 were sourced by various people, who were given the chance to submit their favourites. This means there are entries who aren’t necessarily known to the wider public and not necessarily famous, such as business professionals. The list celebrates those who have contributed through their work to the LGBT community and/or have influence on the LGBT community by being inspirational role models.’
The final list of 100 was decided by judges Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall; Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey and one of only two out lesbian MPs; and Linda Riley, managing director of Square Peg Media (publisher of Pride London).
