As Pride approaches, the publishers of the official Pride London magazine have compiled a list of the 100 most influential LGBT people in the UK.

The Pride Power List bills itself as an alternative to The Independent’s annual Pink List. Publisher Linda Riley explains, ‘We felt there was a need for a list that involved a greater variety of sources that represent the gay community. We have tried to make it more public-oriented by asking the advice of a wider selection of people and organisations. The original top 300 were sourced by various people, who were given the chance to submit their favourites. This means there are entries who aren’t necessarily known to the wider public and not necessarily famous, such as business professionals. The list celebrates those who have contributed through their work to the LGBT community and/or have influence on the LGBT community by being inspirational role models.’
The final list of 100 was decided by judges Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall; Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey and one of only two out lesbian MPs; and Linda Riley, managing director of Square Peg Media (publisher of Pride London).
Live in Norway and so WISSSHHHH...there could be a list like this...there are many people like this, but having working in the "entertainment" industry, know they are in the closet. People who come out, gradually loose their jobs, unless they came out in the 70's or incredibly powerful
:(
Worth pointing out that, when taken against other similar lists compiled in the past, that there seems to be a very strong showing from women. THIS IS A GOOD THING.
so glad they are holding part of it back in soho. Leicester square last year was good...... but soho is the place it should always be..... BRING ON THE SEXY PEOPLE. Hope you all enjoy pride 201.
This is the most ridiculous (and politically biased) list of influential LGBTs that I think I've ever seen! There are FAR more influential individuals omitted.
What about the THREE openly-gay Government Ministers for example? What about the Deputy Mayor of London and the Prime Minister's Political Head of Media, just to mention a few?
I could name many more as well, so if anyone from Pride London would like a second opinion and more of a balance, do please get in touch!
Hmmm. So not actually a Pride list...more a well-known gay list. But they still like the kudos (and cash?) that comes from pretending to be doing something for the B and T in LGBT?
Rank hypocrisy!
jane
Let's see....
Lynette Nusbacher, former lecturer at Sandhurst and counter-terrorism advisor to the PM's department..
Kate Craig-Wood, Entrepreneur and founder of one of the UK's largest IT groups...
But that would be 3 Transsexual women on the list, well above quota.
Stephen Fry is 53rd on the list. sorry just pointing this out becasue you have obviously made some grose mistake. pff this list must have been compiled by an American.....
Jen, surely you're not suggesting that they ought to have had an LGBT panel of judges? :)
Tip my hat to you Brit's and most of the European Union. You are so far more advanced socially than the U.S., both in gay rights and race relations. Wish the U.S. would grow up in these areas.
No Ben Cohen? That is a bad omission, he has done so much this year.
...so that'll be the Top 100 Gay WASP list then? any "B" or "T" - how fatuous of me!
We are the Forgo(t)ten People
Goodness, they managed to include a trans person. One. Solitary. Trans. Person. Nice going. Ticks the T box, eh?
why use the term lgbt for a gay list? Just shows how silent the t has become.
Look at the judging panel...
Angela- Labour MP. Ben - a former Labour councillor. Linda - google strongly suggests she's Labour too.
Perhaps this is why the title of this piece seems to be a humungous typo for "Top 90 Lesbian and Gay Labour Luvvies (and a few other people for a pretence of balance and diversity)"
I wonder whether a different lineup of judges might have produced more B and T names on what is quite an LGbt list?
It is fabulous to see the great and the good of the Gay community being represented here. However there are countless numbers of gay men and women across the country doing sterling work in their own community. An example is Paul Martin CEO of the LG Foundation in Manchester who was recently award an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours last week. His work in the north west has an impact in London to. Other people to be considered are Derek Bodell and Deborah Jack who steered and continue to steer policy and campaign on HIV and AIDS booth here in the UK and internationally. As does the work of Lance Corporal James Wharton, Household Division who visits schools to combat homophobia in an attempt to serve Queens and Country. Fantastic that Time Out is doing this and to see my old mates Paul Burston and Stella Duffy high up in the list!
