Missing for me:
Superbad
Oh Brother Where Art Thou
Strange Brew
Funny People
ZombieLand
Dark Star
A Pain in the A**
Sad to say I cannot find a version of Withnail and I that will run on a Region I DVD player. Can't see it here in the US. Anyone no where to find it?
Holy crap. Where on earth is Bringing Up Baby? Not even in the top 100 let alone the top 10! How is Borat in the top 20 but Bringing up Baby isn;t even in the top 100? This list sucks.
Spinal Tap at number 1? Please. Although removing that would make Airplane number 1 by default so that's acceptable. Glad Bridesmaids from this year is on the list. However, Horrible Bosses from this year also was the funniest movie I saw this year. Not the best, but certainly the funniest. Far better than the travesty that was Bad Teacher and the mediocre Hangover II. Also disappointed to see no Michael Cera films on the list (that I could see in my quick scroll through that is). Juno, Kick Ass and Scott Pilgrim are all worthy films and certainly should have made the top 100.
I'm pleased to see Withnail and I, and of course The Life of Brian in the Top10. However, both those films should have been in the top three.
As for Spinal Tap, I don't think the film merits even being on the list. When I watch a comedy film I expect to be laughing my *** off! Sorry, but I simply didn't find Spinal Tap funny in any way, shape or form.
Fail
Im am glad superbad isnt on because it is shit if you arent a 10 year old but happy gilmore is hilarious but the life of brian should have been number 1
So I'm guessing someone in the Time Out office is a massive Woody Allen fan.
Superbad is one of the funniest films of all time, can't believe it's not there!
I think it's silly to focus on where films have come on the list, it's never going to be perfect, but there are some classics missing.
What about Moon Over Parador? It's a classic. Raoul Julia, Richard Dreyfus and Sonia Braga were fabulous!
People are complaining about Anchorman, Zoolander and Happy Gilmore? They're probably some of my favourite comedy films of ALL TIME! They're definitely all top 10, along with The Hangover and Wayne's world which I'm glad made the list, but where is The 40 Year Old Virgin? Meet The Parents/Fockers? Wedding Crashers? Forgetting Sarah Marshall/Get Him To The Greek? I'd say Mean Girls is INSANE, but more of a chick flick.
And no. I'm not 14 years old.
According to this list, Elf, Team America, Groundhog Day, Zoolander, Happy Gilmore, and Borat are all funnier than Caddyshack and Animal House. Really?
Wether you like the movie or not, MASH should be in imo. It was a political bomb at that time. And first of its kind.
They should change the title: "100 Best English-speaking comedy movies"
Zoolander and Anchorman in the list means you guys have no sense of humor and this ranking has no sense.
Or maybe you guys are 14 years-old? Ok I got it.
un classement américain quoi... et pourtant, il n'y a pas les hots shots... bridgets jones, cable guy (disjoncté), joe la crasse, les glandeurs, les INDIANS !!!! merrrrrde
Postal, SPOOF MOVIE !!! Argent comptant, very bad trip
et les films de Max PECAS alors..., Mon curé chez les nudistes....euh là je déconne...
ben..... et de Funes alors....e Gendarme.....
I see that some european comedy masterpieces have been courteously invited (Thanks for Hollywood generous wild cards) !!! However where is :
-The kid (Ch. Chaplin & J. Coogan)
- A night in Casablanca;
- The last detail;
-Seven Year itch;
-Mash;
- Il Pigeone (M. Monicelli)
- American Graffiti
- Strawberries Statement
-
I understand that this list most likely was conceived in a scientific lab with monkeys making the selections. Having "This is Spinal Tap" as Number 1? Top 20: Anchorman at #6, Withnail and I (which NOBODY has ever heard of) at #7, Team America: World Police at #11, Borat at #12, and South Park at #19??? NONE of them should have made the list. You did, however, include a couple Mel Brooks films, but the one that SHOULD have made the list was "History of the World: Part I". A shame you omitted it.
Another vote for Mad Mad World from me
and
Amelie, obviously
Your ranking is...comical everything is subjective But
How about...it's a Mad Mad World or Bringing up Baby and so many more you are forgetting......
Where is To Be or Not to Be (1942) ? Why have you asked so few women?
Good list, but I would adjust the rankings a bit. Three omissions for you to consider.
>Throw Mamma From the Train--Anne Ramsey's Mamma is one of the great comedic characters ever.
>The Butcher Boy--Pitch black, but very very funny.
>Slap Shot--I know ice hockey isn't a British thing, so it's easy to dismiss this movie as another foul mouthed American comedy. A mistake. It was written by a women and she delights in bashing the American & Canadian male. Paul Newman's greatest performance.
The old sixties movie Its a mad mad mad mad world is hilarious. I also thought The Birdcage was funny.
where is dont be a menace in south central while drinking your juice in the hood!!!!!!!!!!!! Best spoof ever this list is wrong so wrong! fools made this list!!!!!!!!!!!!1
How is Wedding Crashers not even on the list?!? That's a serious omission. It's #1 in my opinion. And it's still funny even after seeing it a few times.
Good list. Obviously everybody and their grandmother will quibble about this or that movie not being higher on the list (my quibble is Naked Gun, which is my favorite comedy of all time.) But overall I think the list hits on most of the greats. This Is Spinal Tap is my second favorite comedy. The evolution of The Tap from an innocent band with hilariously quaint songs like "All the Way Home" to a hard rock group with blatantly offensive albums like Smell the Glove with titles like "Sex Farm" is pure comedy gold. Incidentally, another of their albums, Shark Sandwich earned them a scathing review by one critic who called it simply "shit sandwich."
Anyway, I'm glad you made the list. It gives me a good excuse to reminisce about my favorite comedies which inevitably brings a smile to my face.
I love how the photo for Ghostbusters is actually a scene from Ghostbusters 2.
The Three Stooges!!!!! They were, after all, originally in theaters, even though their stuff was not feature-length. In my humble opinion, 90% of the stuff they made around three-quarters of a century ago id still WAY funnier than 90% of the so-called "comedy" that comes out nowadays.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin
About A Boy

Anvil - The Story of Anvil is better than Spinal Tap because it's real.
Bit disappointed not to see Grosse Pointe Blank on here. Otherwise, not bad.
I know I'm a lone voice in the wilderness but Ishtar is hilarious, and deserves to be here. Go, Ishtar!!
I would have liked to have seen Hellzapoppin' in the list. A film way ahead of its time. "Mrs Jones! ... Mrs Jones!"
SUPERBAD. Where is it? Where is it?
...
Where is it?
Used Cars? The Miracle of Morgan's Creek? Modern Times? Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Divorce Italian Style? Bowfinger? Billy Liar? Twentieth Century? Dazed and Confused? I Know Where I'm Going? Any W.C. Fields or Ernst Lubitsch AT ALL? Slapdash stuff, gentlemen.
bridesmaid is a top tenner and you,ve messed up with spinal tap apart from that you got it pretty close but maybe in a differant order.
C'mon guys, HEATHERS isn't a Top 100 Funniest Movie???? The Jerk is #10, but Heathers isn't ANYWHERE on the list?? I seriously think you need to have a re-think about this.
Someone please justify the inclusion of Kingpin on this list.
Thankyou for not filling this list with Adam Sandler & Jim Carey films - I think that one of each is still too many. Although I can't agree with the order it is a great list with plenty that I must see. I can only assume that you have overlooked " Stripes"
How to murder your wife? Jack Lemmon / Terry thomas?
