  The sister branch of the popular and good-value Shepherd’s Bush Syrian restaurant is open for business as usual on Christmas Day. It’s not your average Edgware Road joint – the menu includes many rare (for London) Damascene dishes. There’s no alcohol though, so you’ll need to wait till after lunch for a sherry elsewhere.   L’Etranger is a Kensington French restaurant with a difference. Traditional Gallic ingredients are given a tasteful Japanese twist, so this year’s Christmas menu (£95 for seven courses plus a glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs) contains unusual offerings like steamed Yorkshire pork and prawn roll with nori, and turkey with sage and sesame stuffing.
