Time Out rounds up the best restaurants serving Christmas lunch and dinner in London, from traditional turkey and trimmings to more unconventional Yuletide cuisine.

Open 11am-11pm.
The sister branch of the popular and good-value Shepherd’s Bush Syrian restaurant is open for business as usual on Christmas Day. It’s not your average Edgware Road joint – the menu includes many rare (for London) Damascene dishes. There’s no alcohol though, so you’ll need to wait till after lunch for a sherry elsewhere. Meal for two with drinks and service: around £30. See more details
75 Westbourne Grove, Bayswater, W2 4UL (020 7229 0806).
Open noon-3pm, 7-11.30pm
There are several set menu options at this classy and welcoming Notting Hill Lebanese. Lunch (noon-3pm) is £12.50 or £14; dinner (7-11.30pm) is £21 or £25. Both are heavy on classics – moujadara, fuul moukala, meaty grills – and are always of a high standard. It may seem odd to be eating Middle Eastern food at Christmas, but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense…See more details

L’Etranger is a Kensington French restaurant with a difference. Traditional Gallic ingredients are given a tasteful Japanese twist, so this year’s Christmas menu (£95 for seven courses plus a glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs) contains unusual offerings like steamed Yorkshire pork and prawn roll with nori, and turkey with sage and sesame stuffing. The popular restaurant will be open all day, so make sure you book. See more details

Open 12.30-7pm
As a fun and informal alternative to a starched and stodgy traditional Christmas dinner, the good value mini-chain Masala Zone is ideal. It’s open for lunch and dinner (last orders 8.45pm) with a set menu costing £36 for three courses. See more details

19 Kilburn Lane, W10 4AE (020 8969 0098).

This perennially popular gastropub and DJ bar is open for Christmas lunch, served in the smart dining room. It’s not cheap at £95 per head (kids eat for £35), but for that you get a glass of Champagne (or mulled wine) and a good-looking menu largely composed of Christmas classics with a few alternatives – game terrine with Cumberland sauce, monkfish with red wine sauce, or chocolate cheesecake with mandarin salad. Fancy something different this Yuletide? Try an à la carte Georgian menu in St John’s Wood.
