There's no more colourful way to shop in London than by sampling its many markets. For those that take food seriously, all corners of the capital boast their own farmers' markets, bringing locally grown produce to the table, while specialised culinary markets like Borough sell premium gastro products from all over Europe. For fashion lovers, each week seems to see the opening of a new vintage, flea and thrift fair alongside furniture markets that peddle London's most reasonable secondhand homewares. Columbia Road's famous flower market packs a Victorian cobbled street with bargain blooms every Sunday. As well as these more fashionable fairs, the capital has stubbornly retained many of its authentic 'Albert Square' style markets- selling no nonsense fruit and veg, bric a brac and cheap clothing. Here's our comprehensive guide to the capital's food, fashion and furniture markets.

Hackney Homemade www.hackneyhomemade.com: Hackney's incredible amount of wonderful homegrown talent is showcased in two local markets. High quality homemade and vintage goods are on offer, as well as a farmer’s market. The Saturday Market takes place in a beautiful church garden in Hackney Central. Its older, but smaller, sister market on a Sunday is in the lively Book Box courtyard, coinciding with the weekly Chatsworth Road street market.
More than just a Market: Hackney Homemade Markets are much more than a mere shopping experience. They are the perfect opportunity for local people to come together in a pleasant environment in the heart of Hackney.
A Festival Atmosphere:
We have changing events all the time. For example, on 9th July we have a summer fete complete with circus acts and the 30th July sees Hackney Children's Theatre with music and dance.
Are there any good markets for second hand/vintage furniture? I am after an armchair that I can get reupholstered and want to stay away from Ikea!
Went to shepherds bush market this week. What a great place, has not changed since my last visit over a decade ago. Food, clothing, hookah pipes all strange different. Fun creative place, have a coffee poeple watch or buy the biggest dutchpot you have ever seen. Enjoy .
What about the Real Food Market on Southbank?? Excellent market with amazing producers..probably the best food market in London! Should be on the list...
