The Branch wooden jewellery
Chunky wooden bangles are having a fashion moment and these from aptly
named The Branch jewellery-makers are some of the best. Designer Wendy
Pickard was inspired by her travels in east and central Africa, in
particular by the traditional bangles and torques made from polished
wood that she came across. Her own designs, which include rings,
pendants, torques and bangles, are richly coloured rosewood
pieces that she combines with sterling silver. Prices start at £14 for
plain wood and £72 for bangles made of silver and wood. An insider’s
tip: you can buy stock from previous collections for as little as £5 at
The Branch stall in Spitalfields Market.

Who Tall Are You? wall chart
You
may know how tall you are, but do you know whose height you match? This
nifty wall chart (£4) by the University of the Arts lists various
celebrities in height order and invites you to measure up against them.
We were surprised to learn that Madonna is shorter than Drew Barrymore,
J-Lo is taller than Martin Scorsese, and Uma Thurman towers over both
David Beckham and Brad Pitt. On the back of the chart is some serious
analysis of the factors that determine height in humans and how
thinking about height in a lateral way assists students of industrial
design.
