    Rockwell roof garden

Place to meet The roof garden at Rockwell (Trafalgar Hilton Hotel, SW1, 020 7870 2959) overlooks Trafalgar Square and makes a civilised alternative to a rammed beer garden.
Where to eat Petersham Nurseries Café (143 Petersham Road, Richmond, 020 8605 3627) is well worth the journey. Spend an afternoon enjoying the Modern European food and swigging Pinot Grigio.
What to do The Time Out Park Nights season at the Serpentine Gallery has just kicked off, with a series of fantastic films, including ‘Performance’ (August 4) and ‘Blue Velvet’ (August 5), being shown outdoors on a 50-foot screen, as well as talks. For more information visit www.timeout.com/parknights.
    Later on
After a stroll through the park, head for Beaufort House (354 King’s Road, SW3, 020 7352 2828). It has a perfect little patio for intimate drinks and a cracking champagne list. Alternatively, the Sanderson (see right) has outdoor drinking space.
Where to end up Try the Charlotte Street Hotel (15-17 Charlotte Street, W1, 020 7806 2000). You can’t sleep outdoors, but you will be able to have breakfast and a coffee by the big open windows in the morning. Feature continues
