  • Hire your home out for a shoot
Letting your house to be used for a film, TV or photographic shoot can earn you anything from £400 and upwards, according to Juliet Bawden of Dixcot Locations. ‘Most of my business comes from within the M25. Many people ring me and say they have a nice view that would be for perfect for filming, but often their house is totally unsuitable. The main thing that is required is space. Crews can bring lots of people and equipment and often need room for their lorries to turn,’ she says. Bawden reckons, on average, you can charge £500 for a still shoot and between £600-£800 for an advertising stills shoot. TV and film shoots can earn between £1,000 and £1,500 plus per day depending on the project. But she warns that it may not be as simple as it sounds, ‘It's not money for old rope. If you are the kind of person who worries about every little scratch, then it probably isn't for you.’

    Play online poker
The explosion of interest in poker, particularly the online variety, has opened the door to a new generation of gamblers. Daniel Schofield, 25, who has been playing online poker for the last three years, says: ‘It is a great way for people to make money, as long as they don't get carried away. My biggest win was $600, when I finished third out of 400 people in an online tournament. My tactic is to sit back and let people call your raise.’ Most poker sites offer a ‘play money’ facility that allows novices to practise in tournaments without risking any cash, before getting stuck into the real thing. The Poker Room is a popular site for both newcomers and more experienced players. Party Poker and Ladbrokes Poker are also worth a visit.

    Become a paparazzo
Break into photography and make money from your hobby. Camera phones are small, neat and can take decent pictures. If your phone has five megapixels your photos will be good enough resolution at least for celebrity pics for Heat and the like. Casually wait at a known celebrity hang-out like The Ivy and you’re bound to have a winning shot before you’re moved on. Don’t forget to say, ‘Over here, love.’ Or maybe you’ll have higher ambitions. You can share your images easily on websites like Flickr but that won’t make you rich. So if you take a shot you’re pleased with, send it to scoopt.com This is a sales site, rather than a sharing one, and its stand-out feature is that if they sell your picture, you get 40 per cent. It also has a small section of photography tips and hints from a picture editor as to what sells.

    89 I dogwalking.jpgGo dog-walking
Take Fido, add fresh air, and bingo, you’re in the money! Be warned though, this is not for the faint-hearted, and if you envisage leisurely strolls in the park, then think again. Dog-walking can involve up to six dogs at a time (the maximum by law), though most companies put a limit on three or four per walk. A love of dogs is obviously essential, and experience with them a must (not serious dog training but ownership at some point or another would be required). Potential dog-walkers will also have to undergo security checks and be fully insured. Some companies require you to have your own means of transport. As for hours, you would need to be available during the day on weekdays, suiting somebody who works from home, who has flexible hours, or who is retired. Depending on the company, you can be paid by the hour or by the number of dogs you walk; either way, you could earn up to £10 per hour.
