1950s Michelin Man
‘I bought him nine years ago in a charity shop in Crouch End for £2. Meant to make him into a lamp, but haven’t yet. Any offers?’
Tricia Callaghan, picture editor
Value: £25-£50. Flying Duck Enterprises quoted £25-£45 for this chirpy chap who would once have adorned the front of a lorry, while Cheap as Chips reckoned £50-plus. They also pointed out that one in mint condition could fetch as much as £200-£400 at a vintage car fair.
Flying Duck Enterprises, 320-322 Creek Rd, SE10 (020 8858 1964/www.flying-duck.com) Cutty Sark DLR. Open Mon-Fri 11am-6pm, Sat, Sun 10.30am-6.30pm.

Wolfgang Tillmans print
‘It was a present from Wolfgang when we were sharing a flat at college. I would feel slightly strange if I sold it, but it would probably pay for a new kitchen, which I have always promised I would name after him.’
Rob Greig, staff photographer
Value: £2,500-£3,500. In perfect condition, signed, as a one-off (rather than an edition), on good-quality paper, and depending how big it is, a print like this could be worth thousands, according to Christie’s. It’s not what you know, eh?
Silver Jubilee loving cup by Spode
‘My mum is a dyed-in-the-wool royalist and quite happy for everyone to know it (everything stops at 3pm on Christmas Day in our house). But her monarchist fervour backfired when it inspired my great-aunt Flora to bequeath this loving cup to her. My mum’s devotion to our sovereign may be loyal and true, but it does not extend to collecting hideous commemorative chinaware. And she was particularly peeved as her sister was left a beautiful painting.’
Sarah Cohen, deputy editor, Time Out online
Value: £100-£150. This was the hesitant estimate from Christie’s, which only saw a picture. eBay is a good source of these royalist treasures and two different limited-edition versions of Silver Jubilee Spode were spotted recently for £450 and £1,500.
