Dressmaking, in fact, is a speciality and it offers a made-to-measure service, as well as colour and style consultations and personal shopping. Hours are flexible, seven days of the week. Prices vary but, for example, a half day of personal shopping (four hours) costs £325.

The Clutter Clinic
This might be just what you need in time for a streamlined and organised 2007. Book company founder Romaine Lowery for a few hours and she’ll transform your domestic chaos, no doubt worsened by decorations and new presents. Her services cost £40 an hour for the initial consultation fee, while a six-hour ‘clutter blitz’ is £250. It’s also possible to buy gift vouchers. As Lowery says: ‘Effectively this is giving someone space and time as a present, rather than a present that will probably only add to the clutter.’

Based in Harlow, Beverly Wade operates in most parts of London (anywhere within 90 minutes), as well as Hertfordshire and Essex. No job is too big or small – she’s willing to sort out a cupboard, office, spare room, garage or your paperwork. The initial consultation is free and the first hour (two hours minimum) costs £40; £35 thereafter.

Wardrobe Editors
Not only will Wardrobe Editors declutter your wardrobe, forcing you to part with that lurex catsuit you’ll never ever wear, it’ll even smarten up your wardrobe with storage boxes and lavender sachets. The (minimum) four-hour service costs £550, which includes the attentions of a stylist, a wardrobe editor and a goodie bag, including lavender products and a style book, complete with photos of you in your finery. A new package (yet to be priced) is for the harried holidaymaker: Wardrobe Editors will come round and pack your suitcase for your fortnight away.
