| Mario Schwab's body-hugging dress |
Schwab on the other hand interpreted the theme with neatly panelled dresses made from thick, protective neoprene and felt. He made the banal luxurious through his signature slick cutting technique. Schwab, who is known for his knock ‘em dead dresses, has shown he can whip up an eye catching coat too – a 3D coat pieced together with neoprene hexagonal shapes and a goose down padded jacket in black matt nylon. The clothes were all well and good but Schwab pissed off the audience went an aggressive strobe light flickered manically for five minutes once the show had ended. Our eye balls are still hurting. | Aimee McWilliams smart seperates and chunky knits |
Aimee McWilliams, a charming little designer who made her name with knitwear, branched out with flowing dresses that look almost fit for a 16th century princess; skinny skinny satin trousers worn with spiky black patent heels (which happen to be everywhere this season) and the cutest bubble-hemmed pinafore dress. McWilliams also won our award for most colourful collection of the day with lipstick reds, acid yellows and tangerine orange.
But the hottest ticket of them all? That of course has to be granted to the 24-year-old Glaswegian designer Christopher Kane, whose show was so full to bursting that VIPs and key buyers were being turned away at the door. Kane, who has put the sexiness back into high fashion, is beginning to generate the same excitement as Sophia Kokosalaki, Roland Mouret maybe even Alexander McQueen before him - his first collection has almost sold out since it arrived in Browns three days ago. His black leather flared mini-dresses and panelled dresses held together with ribbons won massive applause.
