    Ibiza Town

    1. Ibiza Town
The walled town at the heart of the island’s capital is a World Heritage Site, the Plaça de la Vila is packed with elegant shops and restaurants, and there’s a jazz festival at the end of July. There’s a lot of night stuff, too – try minimalist Grial (Av 8 de Agosto, 34 971 31 46 39) for pre-club drinks and then roll on to the Love Club (C Alzines 15, www.loveorganisation.com) until the sun rises and it’s time to go back to the beach.

    2. Alicante

Take a stroll around the Explanada de España on Alicante’s waterfront and you’ll see why it’s Spain’s top makeover city. In less than a decade the port city on the Costa Blanca has been reborn – stroll down palm-lined boulevards to see the MARQ archaeology museum (Plaça Dr Gómez Ulla, 34 965 14 90 00). Eat dockside at Restaurante Los Titorros (Marina Deportiva, 34 965 20 37 07).

    3. Palma
Sophisticated and steeped in history, Palma has a bit of everything. Hang out around Es Molinar, Ca’n Barbara and the historic centre, and have tapas and cerveza in the bars. To go to the next level, check out the top-flight DJs at Garito Café (Dársena de Ca’n Barbara, 34 971 73 69 12).

    4. Barcelona

After ogling the Gaudí architecture and cruising down La Rambla, head to Comerç 24 (C Comerç 24, 34 933 19 21 02) in the trendy Born district to try New Catalan cuisine. Then hit the ‘beach bars’ from Barceloneta to Port Olimpic.

    5. Málaga
Málaga, on the Costa del Sol, is a famously vibrant and utterly Spanish city. The Moorish alcazaba, the Museo Picasso Málaga (C San Agustín 8, 34 952 60 27 31) and the social hub of the Plaza de la Constitución are must-sees. Sip an evening drink at the rooftop bar at the Hotel Larios (C Marqués de Larios 2, 34 952 22 22 00), which conveniently sits on the main shopping strip.
