I want… a new career
Find a new job
Take stock of what you enjoy in your current role and include quality of life issues: Is the 90-minute commute each way killing you? Do you hate working in a suit? Then decide if it’s a small change you need – would you like a shift into HR? Is it time to realise your dream of practising law rather than being a PA? – in which case, look into the training programmes your company offers. Time to start entirely fresh? Address what retraining you’ll need, bearing in mind that you could well have a list of transferable skills.
If you’re still stuck, there are career-change specialists who charge by the hour or by the career change to give you direction, and plenty of books to work you through it.
‘How To Change Your Career’ by Debbie Andalo is £12.99 at most bookshops. An hour-long, one-to-one workshop at Career Energy is £190, ‘career transition’ is from £2,350 (0845 226 1616/www.careerenergy.co.uk).

If you’re just looking for a more varied life, rather than extra cash, there are plenty of sites that match your skills, location and time-availability with the organisation that most needs you. A few of the best are www.do-it.org.uk, www.timebank.org.uk, and www.evolunteer.co.uk.
