Crossing the bridge: Dave Calhoun snaps his way along this film-flavoured route

  • Crossing the Bridge
From Charing Cross, walk up the Strand and cross Waterloo Bridge (you can pretend you’re Michael Caine in ‘Alfie’). Below the bridge is BFI Southbank. Use your web browser to check out their site for details on this month’s seasons dedicated to Burt Lancaster, film noir and women in comedy.
    BFI Southbank, Belvedere Rd, SE1 8XT (020 7928 3232/www.bfi.org.uk)

    Wild River
It’s just a short walk along the river to Borough, where you’ll find the Roxy Bar and Screen – a bar that also shows films. On the way you’ll pass through Clink Street which pops up in the James Mason-narrated ‘The London Nobody Knows’.
    Roxy Bar & Screen, 128-132 Borough High St, SE1 1LB (020 7403 4423/www.roxybarandscreen.com)

    City Slickers
Back at the river, cross the Millennium Bridge near the Tate Modern (one of the city’s top film locations, seen in ‘The Constant Gardener’ and ‘Match Point’). Then head past St Paul’s to the Barbican, where you’ll find three cinemas showing a mix of new releases and archive films.
    Barbican Centre, Silk St, EC2Y 8DS (020 7382 7000/www.barbican.org.uk)

Send an email from your BlackBerry 8110 Pearl smartphone arranging to meet your friends at your chosen final destination...

    Go West
If you’ve any energy left, head west to King’s Cross Station to explore its numerous film locations. ‘The Ladykillers’ was shot here, as were scenes in ‘Mona Lisa’, Mike Leigh’s ‘High Hopes’ and ‘Harry Potter’. Walk around the back streets and you’re bound to recognise the odd location.
King’s Cross Station, Euston Rd, N1

    Final Destination
Make the ICA or Curzon Soho your last stop. Both have eclectic programming, and great bars where you can treat yourself to a well-deserved drink or snack.
    ICA, The Mall, SW1 5AH (020 7930 3647/www.ica.org.uk)
    Curzon Soho, 99 Shaftesbury Ave, W1D 5DY (020 7292 1686/www.curzoncinemas.co
