The beaches
Jersey has glorious beaches to complement its mild climate. Grouville Bay and St Brelade’s Bay are great for water sports. The five mile sandy stretch at St Ouen’s Bay on the west coast catches the afternoon sun and is popular with surfers. Beauport beach on the south coast is sheltered and peaceful.

Fortresses
Throughout its history, people have fought for this beautiful island. The medieval fortress Mont Orgueil looms over Gorey harbour, while Elizabeth Castle stands on an islet in St Aubin’s Bay. The Jersey War Tunnels expedition explores the island’s World War II occupation .

Country walks
With tranquil coves, cliff-top trails and quiet lanes, Jersey is ideal for walks. Spring Walking Week (May 17-24) features tours such as ‘Moonwalks’ along the coast at low tide and ‘Food Trails’ that highlight local produce.

Menu de Terroir
Jersey food is a treat to savour. Oysters and mussels are delicious, as are Jersey Royal new potatoes. Fresh strawberries with Jersey cream are pure heaven. Many restaurants hold a Menu de Terroir competition in May and June featuring dishes with local ingredients. www.genuinejersey.com

Jersey Zoo
Founded by Gerald Durrell, this is more a sanctuary than a zoo. Dedicated to the rescuing of endangered animals, its acres of beautiful parkland are home to gorillas, orang-utans, lemurs and gibbons. We love the meerkats!
