It’s the UK’s biggest adventure race, turning the city into a giant playground over the weekend of September 27-28. Scrambling over monuments, running through nightclubs, splashing into the river and cycling just about everywhere are just some of the activities in this two-day event – and you won’t know exactly what’s in store for you until you get there. The emphasis is on fun, but it’s a tough challenge, taking in orienteering, abseiling and kayaking, as well as going ‘Over the Moon’ as you ascend, traverse and descend the course’s biggest element, a 6m-high Indesit Moon washing machine!

At 5pm on Saturday the starting gun is fired and the contestants, armed only with a map, spill out over London in search of checkpoints. You can sprint, walk or jog the course at your own speed. Get up bright and early for the 8am start on Sunday, the main day of competition. You’ll be covering at least 50km by bike and on foot, and in the saddle for at least six hours. Sounds easy? Not only will you have a sore bum but a wet one too, when you’re kayaking on the Thames, doing an Eskimo roll like a washing machine on spin cycle!
All this effort is for a good cause – to raise money for charity – but, more importantly, you’ll earn the right to let your hair down at the Sunday night after-party. Go on, you deserve it!
