    Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa
    This luxurious salon is not the sort of place you’ll want to leave in a hurry, but if you have to, its ‘super-fast blowdries’ are just that. Costing £40, they’re a guaranteed 30 minutes from start to finish.

    Cracking (almost literally) deep tissue masseuse Yerous is tiny but mightily strong: her skills were honed in her native Ethiopia, where the vigorous kneading technique she uses is used medically to help knit broken bones. You’ll float out. £50 for 60 mins.

    Sumptuous but cosy surroundings; calming therapists who rarely speak above a whisper; dimmed lights and perfumed air.

    Human Nature
    Nari Sudram works his intense, deep-tissue magic from the basement of his Queen’s Park health food shop. Not for the faint-hearted, it’s a revelation for those who’ve been underwhelmed by the softly, softly approach.

    Spa Illuminata
    This Mayfair spa may look grand, but is very approachable. Its four-hand massage (with two therapists working simultaneously) is heavenly.

    Glenn Sontag
    Sontag’s a great masseur who’s also training to be an osteopath. He offers therapeutic, sports and Thai massage for £45 per hour. Time Out readers get a ten per cent discount on their first treatment.
