Time Out says

A curiously lifeless musical remake of Hawks' own comedy classic Ball of Fire, with Kaye taking the Gary Cooper role and transformed into a shy musicologist, whose quiet existence is disturbed by the arrival of Mayo's nightclub singer, who not only brings the attention of the Mob down on Kaye and his elderly colleagues, but also teaches them the joy of jazz. Mainly wrecked by the performances, although there are some fine musical spots for the likes of Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton and Tommy Dorsey.
