The fallout from the original ‘American Pie’ – a still-cresting tidal wave of tedious adolescent grossout crud – has obscured the fact that it was a likeable little comedy filled with memorable characters and moments of insight into the teenage condition. Thirteen years later, those characters have grown up – but the movies haven’t. ‘American Reunion’ sees Jim (Jason Biggs), Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) and their toddler head home for a high-school reunion party, inevitably hooking up with the entire cast of the original movie en route. But what could have been a sweet, nostalgic reflection on the pitfalls and pleasures of growing up – with added dick jokes – is let down by a feeble script which eschews good-natured humour in favour of crass innuendo and postcard sauce: outside of porn, there has never been a movie with so many shots of grown men eyeing teenage girls’ backsides. The result is fitfully amusing but more often just creepy.

  • Laughs? 0, but JUST likeable and polished enough to earn cinema worthy status...but will "work" just as "well" at home, so no cineworld unlimited card or freebie, don't bother......unless stuck in the 90's. 6/10

  • From such a difference timewise it is difficult to remember just how much of a trend setter the original film was. Perhaps more than any film in the last fifteen years it has influenced and led to more films than any other. As such this is why this film was such a disappointment. The very best bits were in the trailer so if you don't see the film you won't have missed much. What was bright and funny in the original is reheated and like a day old pizza it leaves rather a bad taste in your mouth. There is too much reliance on nob gags and not enough genuine humour nor enough time spent on the script. Overall a disappointing 2 stars.

  • As a big fan of the series I was disappointed here. I should have known better, Harold and Kumar Directors? Not the worst film ever but a 2 is as good as it gets.
