Time Out says

Sam Goldwyn turned the Irish Troubles of 1921 into the backdrop for a tale of doomed love. Oberon's the daughter of a stuffy English civil servant sent to Dublin, Aherne a fiery rebel leader, but the drawstrings of romance bind them together in this hokey tale of passion, duty, betrayal, etc. First-time director Henry Codman Potter was later to find fame with Hellzapoppin', which gives some idea where his talents lay. Not here, in other words.
