Time Out says

An expressive noir title, lifted from Eliot: 'Between midnight and dawn, when the past is all deceit,' is squandered on this routine police procedural/buddy movie. O'Brien and Stevens nose around the mean streets in their prowl car, rivals for the affections of the pretty dispatcher but united in pursuit of a slimy Mr Big. The late appearance of a revenge motif works up a little head of steam, and Douglas directs with his customary autopilot efficiency.
