Time Out says

An unexceptional cocktail of traditional underdog ingredients: gangland rivalry, James Dean-type angst, and some simplistic social comment - poverty Mexican-American style, where the only entertainment comes from cruising custom cars and protecting territorial rights. The downtrodden side of LA is well shot, and Danny de la Paz is excellent as the non-conforming youngster. But that's not enough to save the film or provide it with an identity of its own.
