Time Out says

A pale shadow of Griffith's film, with Haas struggling vainly to emulate the limpid Lillian Gish, and Williams (who also scripted) coming a ludicrous cropper compared to the marvellously expressive passivity of Richard Barthelmess' Chinaman. With no performances to speak of, the whole rickety structure collapses like a pricked balloon. Very pleasing to the eye, all the same, with Brahm giving the whole thing a moody veneer of UFA expressionism.
