Not so much a movie, more a pub chat that got way out of hand, this ludicrous attempt to plonk veteran rockers Status Quo in an exotic international thriller is so laughably lame it verges on the surreal. On tour in Fiji, the ageless headbangers stumble into an aftershow party featuring a deadly game of Russian roulette. Soon crime kingpin Jon Lovitz wants these witnesses eliminated, prompting various chases and punch-ups all conducted at a sedate pace so sixtysomething frontmen Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt can keep up. Occasional musical interludes show the band in their comfort zone; elsewhere the supporting cast would happily belong in an Ed Wood movie, and the action recalls the cheery amateurism of ’70s kids TV. Parfitt’s mesmerisingly peculiar line readings generate a certain comedic fascination, but mostly this just reeks of contempt for the audience, assuming that the loyal Quo fanbase will put up with such shambolic fare. Even the faithful would be advised to wait for the DVD, and the chance to add your own running banter far funnier than anything on screen.
