Conceived by Warner Brothers as a rival to MGM's Mutiny on the Bounty, it's a straightforward adaptation of Sabatini's adventure novel about a young doctor who starts as a deportee, succeeds as a pirate, and winds up as Governor of Jamaica, with Olivia de Havilland on his arm.
