Time Out says

Clock-watching comprehensive headmaster Mr Stimpson (Cleese) momentarily boards the wrong train when he sets out for a Headmasters' Conference in Norwich; the result, a never-ending nightmare as he's forced to hijack one of his sixth-formers, complete with her parents' car, and to travel hell-for-leather across the Midlands countryside. Much of Michael Frayn's original screenplay might seem like routine farce, were it not for the furious pace and level of invention in terms of both plot and dialogue. But what finally makes it consistently amusing is, of course, Cleese.

  • Lovely drive through English countryside with a slightly manic Cleese at the helm.unfortunately if I was a teacher I could only put "good effort, needs working on." somehow I found it underwritten as a farce. I can see what they were trying to do but it doesn't really stand up well in the comedy stakes to a Basil Fawlty comparison. It has a few good moments but not enough for me. I think the original "out of towners" did this sort of thing much better.
