This dull, meaningless and pretty frustrating film is an edit of a four-part, digitally-animated series originally made for the Discovery Channel. To all intents and purposes it’s a series of musical vignettes – punctuated by episodic fades to black – depicting what life might have been like for dinosaurs prior to their obliteration by a meteorite. Bizarrely, Werner Herzog pops up as narrator, but his likeable presence amounts to no more than five minutes. The rest of this tone-shifting hodgepodge is comprised of atrociously realised scenes of dinosaurs ripping each other to shreds and moments of slapstick where they appear to have been humanised. Total cobblers. If the prospect of an educational film dressed up to play like ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ meets ‘Ice Age’ with music from ‘Fantasia’ excites you, then by all means…
