Time Out says

John Chapman's stage farce opened in London in the summer of 1954 and was still running to full houses when this film version came out. Here, however, it all begins to creak. Bent bookies Shiner, Rix and James plan a killing at the races by switching their decrepit nag for a so-called French wonder horse, but, unsurprisingly, things don't exactly go to plan.
