Here’s a ‘Triumph of the Will’ for the dog-on-a-string set: an attempt by the crusty massive to brainwash us into believing that a refusal to wash and a bizarre fascination with bongos will cure society’s ills. A recut of 1996’s ‘Glastonbury the Movie’ (shot at the festival in 1993), ‘In Flashback’ shares faults with its predecessor – too much bad music (prog from Ozric Tentacles, acid jazz from Dexter Fletcher’s Filberts), excessive would-be psychedelic camera trickery and a wildly rose-tinted outlook.

But there are bright moments: Spiritualized are brief but phenomenal; the magic-hour photography is gorgeous; and the tide of tie-dye will provide a Proustian rush for anyone who was there – most of whom must now be gainfully employed as bank managers, civil servants and, in at least one case, film critics.

  • Somewhat insulting review there Mr. H. Casting your net of dismissal rather widely. I thought the film was laugh. Didn't take itself too seriously. Uplifting, positive and and showing a rare and much needed insight into its subject-matter.
