Widower Grant takes his kids in tow and shacks up in a new floating domicile to find romance with maid Loren, who (surprise!) just happens to be a wealthy socialite doing a bit of slumming. Tame VistaVision family frolic.

Grace I

A terminally handsome Cary Grant plays a father who suddenly has to take charge of his three young children, from whom he's been estranged, when his former wife dies, but luckily for him, an absolutely gorgeous Sophia Loren runs away from her musician father and runs straight into one of Grant's sons, who brings her home. How they all end up living on a creaky houseboat is part of the story, which is charming and often hilarious from start to finish. Grant and Loren were supposedly in love during the filming of Houseboat, and, boy, does it show. Their sexual chemistry is electric, especially when they are dancing or even just fighting over how to raise children. The real stars of the film are the children who have to learn to trust an absentee father and form bonds with Loren as a housekeeper and surrogate mother. This is a lovely film that gets better with subsequent viewings.
