Time Out says

Ireland, 1952, and the coming of the electricity to a remote village threatens the traditional way of life forever, forcing a fisherman and his college-age son to reappraise their stagnant relationship. The death of a local lad in the Korean War, fighting for the Americans, is the metaphor for the onslaught of the outside world in this well-acted but rather stodgy rerun of familiar themes. The camerawork captures the grey dankness of the lakeside landscape, but we've been here before and insight is not forthcoming.
