Watch the trailer for Michel Gondry’s new film ‘Mood Indigo’ and you’ll either sigh a dreamy little sigh or cry a please-no-God cry. After dallying with Hollywood superheroes in ‘Green Hornet’, it looks like the director is back in the eccentric love story territory of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. This is Gondry’s first French film and judging from the trailer it's stuffed with enough cutsy quirks (retro typewriters, a cocktail-making piano, a flying cloud-car, Audrey Tautou, ice-skating) to make Wes Anderson reach for the nunchucks. Tatou plays a woman who has a water lily growing in her chest. The only way the love of her life (Romain Duris) can keep her alive is by constantly buying her flowers. Lovers of French literature will recognise the story as the 1947 surrealist novel 'L'Écume des Jours' by Boris Vian. The trailer doesn’t have subtitles yet, but you don’t need a GCSE in French to translate ‘la plus poignante’.
