This spectacularly shoddy follow-up to the fairly dismal original replaces Martin Freeman – who has gone on to considerably bigger and hopefully better things – with David Tennant, who looks decidedly miffed to be appearing in a glorified school panto. He plays Donald Peterson, whose stewardship of a rambunctious and weirdly non-age-specific class at a primary school in Coventry is made more difficult by the intrusions of hirsute, worryingly ‘playful’ man-child Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton). But it’s not long before the two join forces to enter a national singing competition, heading off to Wales to sing forgettable, autotuned ballads, emote wildly in caves, chuck kids off mountains and behave in ways that would get any real teacher arrested.
With a plot that feels like it was jotted down on a beer mat, direction straight from the BBC daytime television school of visual splendour and a soundtrack crammed with saccharine festive pop, ‘Nativity 2’ offers roughly as many laughs as the Queen’s speech.

  • I went to see this film after recently watching the first Nativity on DVD and have to say that the first film was better however Nativity 2 is a great film - it doesn't have as much comedy as the first Nativity but I thought it was a great film to watch and I really enjoyed it! :)

  • DO NOT GO TO DIDCOT CINEMA!!!!! I went to this terrible cinema and when enjoying a film I was bitten and scratched in the lower back and buttocks by insects...every time! I beleive these HORRID insects to be human fleas. Please, save yourself a itching red rash and don't EVER go to the Didcot cinema. Thank you for listening to this advice!

  • Loved the first one but this one doesn't really bring anything new. It's o.k. and funny in places and it is what it is a film about school kids doing a nativity kind of thing. My biggest issue was when they said the competition was at a welsh castle and then it was filmed in Warwick castle even though Wales has loads of wonderful castles. That and other visual details let it down for me so a 2.5 rating, the kids will love it, but I wouldn't pick it as a grown up

  • The awfulness of this film has made me give a review where I usually never bother. Dire! I sat there thinking of all the other things I need to do (Christmas cards, aagh) and would like to do better (cut my toenails). Wished I'd brought the cards & nail scissors to the cinema for entertainment. On the plus side, it enabled me to treat my little ones who (unlike big bro) are too small for The Hobbit, and made family life fair! One star for that.
