Big Arnie straps on the fetishistic military hardware for a rumble in the jungle with a merciless, camouflaged alien (Hall). A routine operation to rescue a cabinet minister captured by South American guerrillas turns into a fight to the death when Arnie's crack platoon is picked off one by one by an invisible adversary, which then makes itself visible, removes its protective helmet, and challenges him to a fair (!) fight. With its stilted dialogue and hammy acting, the film has the look of an expensive production but the feel of a B movie, delivering the sort of undemanding monster mayhem Arnie's fans have come to expect.

Along with Terminator 2, one of the best movies ever made. The action, the setting, the alien, the amazing handshake ('Dillon, you son of a bitch'), the infrared, the cloaking, a minigun churning up vast sections of the jungle, Apollo Creed, the one liners (stick around/if it bleeds, we can kill it/ugly motherf*cker/again - you son of a bitch). The perfect action/sci fi film, the rest of the Predator, Aliens vs Predator films don't come close, although Predator 2 was a pretty good movie. 10 stars.

Stilted dialogue and a B movie??? I don't think i've been watching the same movie really. Clearly Predator has attracted enough attention to have (with "Predators" hitting screens later this year) two direct sequels, and, albeit unsuccessful "AVP" spin-offs. Ok, the acting was never going to be anything other than "hammy", but c'mon, its an 80's action movie...and it works. The storyline is nothing less than original, its backed up by a 1st class soundtrack and biceps that would make many commandos green with envy.

The person who wrote the initial review must have about as much excitement in their life as a gardensnail on valium. This is a classic, from sountrack to motion picture.
