From Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, the producer and writer of ‘The Transporter’, comes another lean, mean action movie. An anxious American father is on the phone to his daughter when she and her friend are abducted from their Paris hotel. Her dream holiday was always his worst nightmare. Now that nightmare is real. He has 96 hours to save his daughter from being sold into prostitution. Pretty much what you’d expect, then, except for one surprise: the father, an ex-government agent with ‘a particular set of skills’, is played by heavyweight Liam Neeson.

Neeson’s presence lends dramatic heft to a formulaic action movie that otherwise majors in chase scenes and the brutally efficient use of firepower, martial arts, fire extinguishers and broken bottles. The quest is simple, as are the undeniable pleasures. Director Pierre Morel’s directing style is ruthlessly efficient, but leaves no time to ponder the plot holes or the borderline racist portrayal of vicious Albanian gangsters and sleazy Arab businessmen.

  • morrel again is implicating that corruption translates from the higher echelons of the government -like B13 this combines corrupt bureaucrats and conspiracy between politicians and ordinary gangsters as being the root level cause of crime -albanians are shown as exploited as the victims here-the cops and politicians are the main villains, and liam looks devastating as the lean mean fighting machine -a high octane action thriller which is very well made and some people applauded in the theatre too-it is formulaic and has loopholes too but is entertaining -a rare quality today in cinema -the ambiance of the drug prostitution hovels makes it dark and harrowing ,though not as chilling as eastern promises..i enjoyed it despite the action hero stereotypes for it's rather endearing paternal affect and superb pacing with slick action pieces .

  • Having Liam Neeson in the role adds nothing to this movie, it could just as well have been played by Bruce Willis. One man on his own defeats all the baddies !! Bookended by images of his daughter living the "American Dream". God Bless America !! ( It is ironic that the baddies are Albanian gangsters, given that Bush and Co. have dismembered Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia and given it to Albanian criminals and terrorists !!)

  • Isaw this film courtesy of timeout. Its was a great film, although probably not something I would have gone to see without the free tickets. The plot is thought emotive and dealt with well and sadly something that does happen in this sad perverted world. Well worth watching if you fancy something other than the usual american action hero stuff!
