The Cat and the Canary

Time Out saysA remake of Paul Leni's 1927 Old Dark House classic, this was Hope's first really big success. The tale of a group of characters gathered for a reading of a will, with spooky goings-on galore, it's a perfect vehicle for Hope's bluff, cowardly persona. Predictable, but surprisingly atmospheric (Sondergaard helps no end) and often very funny.
