The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith

Time Out saysFine adaptation of Thomas Keneally's novel about a half-caste caught between his aboriginal heritage and his mission-bred belief that he has a stake in white society. The setting is New South Wales on the eve of federation between the Australian states in 1900, and when Jimmie discovers the truth of this brave new world ('You'll still have the same rights - none'), he declares war in an orgy of murder. A little too leisurely in its eye for landscapes, but a film of real power.
