The Fighting 69th

Time Out saysSentimental propagandist claptrap recounting the heroic adventures of New York's famous Irish regiment during World War I. With distinct echoes of Angels With Dirty Faces - Cagney's the brash punk knocking the company's traditions until he discovers patriotism, O'Brien's the pious priest giving him guidance - the film is one of its star's most sugary, and therefore most disappointing efforts. Still, he does make the film come alive during a couple of hysterical screaming scenes.
