Dispirited teacher Bruno is convinced by his sister to return home after a long absence (for rather implausible reasons), and a chance to reconcile with their dying mother. A series of flashbacks to the children’s unstable upbringing do little to embellish the shallow and melodramatic plot, and only at the end are we rewarded with any deeper feeling for Bruno and his family.Author: Abigail Lelliot
