Time Out says

Aside from a long and outrageously destructive car chase, this is mainly a matter of mild charm and much cracker-barrel philosophy as an ageing confidence trickster (Scott) sardonically undertakes to instruct a youthful army deserter (Sarrazin) in the ways of the world. Good performances all round, but it's a long haul before the boy, having proven himself an apt pupil but deciding to do the right thing, teaches his mentor that there is at least one honest person in the world.
