Time Out says

Attenborough as the quiet lodger who blows his cork, shoves a policeman down the stairs, and barricades himself into his room at the top. Very obviously a second-hand variation on Le Jour se lève but quite grippingly done, although Alun Falconer's script tends to run to stereotype in trying to extract significance from the reactions of police, welfare officer, and other tenants. The resolution, brought about by a sympathetic young mother (Alison), is dismayingly inadequate, to say the least.
