Time Out says

A great actor who has settled for scene-stealing eccentricity in recent years, Walken switches registers to do excellent, controlled work here as an ex-con turned mechanic. His efforts to go straight are hindered by the arrival of a dubious cousin from Ireland (McDonald) just as the bills are mounting. Admittedly we've seen this before, but writer/director Connell's low key authenticity has its charms, not least a very credible supporting turn from Lauper as the long suffering barkeep in Walken's life.
