Time Out says

This deliriously weird first feature from Daniele Ciprì and Franco Maresco starts with the removal of a glass eye and the casual fucking (for money) of a donkey. It continues along a likewise coarse path as it charts the relationship between a boorish Palermo family and the local mafiosi. It's got great visual gags, and endless farting, belching, gluttony, mother-fixation and masturbation. All the roles (including the mothers) are played by unattractive men. There are unexpected musical and Brechtian interludes, and allusions to various films including Bicycle Thieves. It's a little protracted, and the touch of the Fellinis at the end is regrettable, but otherwise it's a gloriously bawdy black comedy which gives a whole new meaning to the term 'cosa nostra'.
