The Weight of Elephants

Think ‘Let the Right One In’ minus the vampires: loneliness, bullying, a strange community, and – inevitably – loss of innocence. Sensitive 11-year-old Adrian, abandoned by his parents and anxious after three children in the local town have gone missing, has his life shaken up by the arrival of wild and mysterious Nicole, who moves in across the street. The trailer suggests the film will be visually stylish, with stark, clean lines, airy open spaces, and refracted light playing on crystal and water. This Danish/New Zealand film is produced by Lars von Trier’s company Zentropa and is the first feature film from director Daniel Borgman, whose shorts ‘Lars and Peter’ and ‘Berik’ won several critics’ awards around Europe in recent years.
